BBC Renews Hit Crime Drama “This City Is Ours” for Season 2

2 Mins read

The BBC has officially renewed its breakout crime drama ” This City Is Ours” for a second season. It follows a hugely successful debut that captured the attention of millions of viewers and critics alike.

“This City Is Ours” quickly became the BBC’s most-watched new drama launch of the year. The show drew over 6.6 million viewers per episode before the season finale, with the first episode alone tripling its overnight ratings after streaming on BBC iPlayer.

The series has been praised for its gripping storyline, performances and authentic portrayal of the city’s underworld.

Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team

The series stars Sean Bean as Ronnie Phelan, the leader of a powerful crime family. Other key cast members include James Nelson Joyce as Michael Kavanagh, Ronnie’s right-hand man, and Jack MacMullen as Jamie Phelan, Ronnie’s ambitious son.

Julie Graham, Hannah Onslow and Saoirse Monica Jackson also play important roles in the ensemble cast.

“The City Is Ours” was created and written by Stephen Butchard, known for his work on other acclaimed dramas. The series is produced by Left Bank Pictures, the company behind ” The Crown,” and distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.

A Story of Power, Family and Betrayal

Season 1 followed the aftermath of Ronnie Phelan’s decision to retire, which sparked a fierce battle for control between Michael and Jamie. The show explored the complexities of loyalty, ambition and family ties within the Phelan crime organisation.

The action was not limited to Liverpool; some scenes were shot in Spain, highlighting the gang’s international connections.

The series also stood out for its lighter moments, such as Sean Bean’s character leading a memorable golf buggy charge set to the theme of “Apocalypse Now” and a viral line dancing scene that delighted fans online.

What’s Next in Season 2?

While plot details for the second season are still under wraps, the dramatic finale of season 1 left plenty of unresolved tension and new threats for the Phelan family. The death of a key rival and shifting alliances promise even more intrigue and danger ahead.

Both the cast and creators have expressed excitement about returning for another season. Sean Bean shared his hope for a long future for the show, calling it a unique project that deserves its success.

Creator Stephen Butchard thanked viewers for their overwhelming support and emotional investment, promising more twists and turns to come.

When Will Season 2 Arrive?

Production details and the release date for season 2 have not yet been announced. However, based on typical production timelines, fans can likely expect new episodes in late 2026.

For now, ” The City Is Ours” remains available to stream on BBC iPlayer, with anticipation building for the next chapter in Liverpool’s most notorious crime saga.
