Bonnie Tyler Recovering After Emergency Surgery in Portugal

1 Mins read

The Welsh rock star Bonnie Tyler is recovering in hospital following emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal, his representatives said. The 74-year-old singer, whose hit songs; Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero, dominated the charts, was taken to a hospital in Faro earlier this week after allegedly having a “serious intestinal problem” that needed immediate medical attention.

A message posted on Tyler’s official website confirmed the operation and that the singer is in recovery. Her team commented: “The surgery was successful and she is recovering. We know that her family, friends and fans will all be concerned with this news and hope that she has a quick and full recovery.

Tyler is said to be a homeowner in the Algarve, Portugal, and he has been residing there before a series of European dates was unveiled later this month. The health scare hasn’t yet had a noticeable impact on the upcoming shows.

But the Grammy-winning singer has continued to perform regularly despite his 30-plus years in the music industry. Tyler has been very supportive of her active presence on stage and daily exercise and Pilates practice in her recent interviews to keep her healthy.

The singer’s pages have been swarmed by fans on social media who have praised her for undergoing the emergency surgery. Tyler’s toughness was commended by many, and her long music career was recognised as a worthy legacy of nearly 50 years.

Tyler first became famous in the late 1970s performing songs like It’s a Heartache, and reached superstar status in 1983 with Total Eclipse of the Heart. During eclipse events and the Internet craze for streaming songs, it still gets played and will remain one of the most well-known power ballads ever recorded in pop music.

The singer has recorded 18 studio albums over the years and is one of Wales’ most successful exports. Her work as a performer and with charity is recognised by an MBE, making her one of Britain’s most popular performers.

The timeline has not been made public for Tyler’s stay in the hospital, but updates released so far indicate she is in a stable condition and making a good recovery after the emergency procedure.
