1 Mins read

The music world is mourning the passing of Carl Thomas Dean, the devoted husband of country music legend Dolly Parton, who died on March 3, 2025, at the age of 82.

Their nearly six-decade-long marriage was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect, despite the challenges of fame and public scrutiny.

Dolly Parton, known for her iconic songs like Jolene and 9 to 5, shared a heartfelt statement following Carl’s death.

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy,” she expressed, highlighting the profound impact Carl had on her life.

The couple’s love story began in 1964 when Dolly, then 18, met Carl outside the Wishy Washy Laundeomat in Nashville. Two years later, they married in a small ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia, marking the start of a lifelong partnership.

Carl, a retired asphalt contractor, preferred to stay out of the spotlight, allowing Dolly to shine while he supported her from behind the scenes.

Dolly often spoke about the secrets to their long-lasting marriage, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, separate intrestes and a sense of humor. “We both have a wrapped sense of humor,” she once said,” and “I think humor, honestly, is one of the best things when you’re married like that.”. She also noted that not being in each other’s faces all the time helped keep their relationship fresh.

Carl Dean is survived by Dolly and his siblings, Sandra and Donnie. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time, with Carl set to be laid to rest in a private ceremony. Dolly’s statement concluded with a request for privacy, reflecting the couple’s preference for keeping their personal life out of the public eye.

In recent years, Dolly has shared insights into their relationship, highlighting how Carl’s influence extended beyond their personal lives. She mentioned that his appreciation for rock ‘n’ roll inspired some of her music choices, including her “Rockstar” album. Despite never seeking the spotlight, Cark played a significant role in Dolly’s artistic journey, even inspiring her iconic song Jolene.

As the music industry and fans worldwide offer condolences to Dolly Parton, her love story with Carl Dean serves as a reminder of the power of enduring love and mutual respect. Their legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
