Euphoria Star Hunter Schafer Reveals Incorrect Gender Marker on New Passport

2 Mins read

Hunter Schafer, a prominent transgender actress known for her role in HBO’s “Euphoria,” recently revealed that her newly issued passport lists her gender as male despite selecting female on the application.

This change is attributed to an executive order by President Donald Trump, which mandates that government-issued documents reflect the sex assumed at birth.

Schafer expressed shock and frustration upon discovering the incorrect gender marker on her passport. She had previously held identification documents with a female gender marker for nearly a decade but never updated her birth certificate.

Schafer believes this discrepancy occurred because agencies now cross-reference birth certificates when issuing passports.

The Trump administration’s policy has sparked widespread criticism from LGBTQ+ advocates. The executive order restricts federal recognition of gender beyond male and female elimination options for non-binary marks on official documents like passports.

Schafer emphasized: “Trans people are never going to stop existing. I’m never gonna stop being trans.”

Schafer shared her experience via TikTok to raise awareness rather than seek sympathy. She highlighted the challenges faced by transgender individuals due to these policies; nothing might require them to disclose their status during travel. Despite facing difficulties, Schafer remains resolute in asserting her identity.

The policy shift under Trump has also faced legal challenges. A lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union alleges discrimination against transgender individuals based on sex and infringes on First Amendment rights.

This legal action underscores growing resistance against restrictive gender policies.

Hunter Schafer’s situation reflects broader concerns within the LGBTQ+ community about increased marginalization under recent U.S. policies.

Her visibility as a celebrity allows her to amplify these issues more effectively than many others who face similar challenges without public platforms.

Although Schafer stated she doesn’t care about the incorrect label, she noted it complicates life for trans people. “It does make life a little harder.”

As part of his broader agenda for achieving gender diversity recognition, Trump signed orders restricting federal support for initiatives promoting diverse gender identities and limiting participation in sports based on biological sex at birth. These measures have been met with significant opposition from civil rights groups advocating for inclusivity.

Despite facing adversity due to government action, Hunter Schafer remains steadfast in affirming trans identities: A letter and passport can’t change that.” Her message resonates with many who see these changes as attempts to undermine hard-won rights within the LGBTQ+ community.

Hunter Schafer’s experience highlights ongoing struggles faced by transgender individuals under restrictive U.S. policies aimed at limiting recognition of diverse genders beyond male and female gained at birth.
