Greggs steak bakes recalled after health alert | Greggs issues urgent ‘do not eat’ warning as popular Iceland item recalled

2 Mins read

Greggs has issued an urgent recall for its products, which are sold in retailers all around the world, including Iceland. The Greggs 2-pack steak bake, which is only available in Iceland, is being recalled by the bakery.

Sulphites are not declared because the product comprises sausage, beans, and cheese melts.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), this puts the food at risk for health problems for anyone sensitive to sulphur dioxide or sulphurites.

The recall only applies to items bought from Icelandic retailers because this two-pack product is only available there. Customers were reassured by Greggs that neither batch date codes nor other goods are impacted. It has been determined that several well-known

Greggs products that are only available in Iceland pose a “possible health risk” to some consumers. On Monday, January 20th, the well-known bakery company recalled their two-pack of steak bakes. Some of the boxes include sulphites from sausage, bean, and cheese melts due to a packing issue.

Since this ingredient is not listed on the package, the product may be harmful to people who are sensitive to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphurites, according to a warning sent to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Product Details

The 280g Steak Bake boxes impacted by the Greggs recall have a best-before date of May 19, 2025, according to the FSA advisory. Customers have been advised not to eat them but to return them to the retailer for a complete refund because they are only sold in Iceland.

The two-pack of steak bakes, which are only available in Iceland, may contain sausage, bean, and cheese melts.

In addition to notifying the appropriate allergy support networks, Greggs has sent out point-of-sale notices informing customers of the product’s recall and what to do if they have already bought the impacted packs.

Greggs provided its customers with an explanation in the recall notification: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you have any queries, please contact Customer Care at +44 0801 473 447 or getintouch@greggs.co.uk.”

The FSA said: “If you have bought the above product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not consume it. “Instead, return it to your nearest Iceland store from where it was bought for a full refund.

In other UK recall news, Farmfoods is recalling a pack of fifty cocktail sausage rolls because of a packing issue that resulted in certain packs containing cheese and milk-containing onion sausage rolls.

The recall affected 700g packs with the batch code L4285 and the October 2025 best-before date. Anyone with a milk or dairy product allergy or intolerance is in danger because they include milk, which has not been declared.

Customers have been warned not to eat the impacted packs of sausage buns if they think they may have bought them. They are advised to return them to the retailer where they were purchased to obtain a complete refund.

Similarly, a batch of Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge was recently recalled by Lidl Northern Ireland, according to other food recall news.

This was due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, which rendered the product unfit for human consumption. The symptoms of this bacterium might resemble those of the flu and include fever, chills, and nausea.
