Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, famously known for her role as San Chai in the beloved series Meteor Garden, has tragically passed away at the age of 48.
Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news on February 3, 2025, after succumbing to pneumonia, which developed after contracting the flu during a family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year holiday.
Hsu’s sister, Dee Hsu, expresses her sorrow emotionally. “My dearest sister Barbie has unfortunately left us after getting pneumonia triggered by influenza. I will always be grateful to her sister in this lifetime.”
Dee expressed her gratitude for the moments they shared and emphasized that she will always remember Barbie fondly.
Dee Hsu also said in a statement shared by her manager, “During the Lunar New Year, or family came to Japan for vacation. My dearest sister Barbie has unfortunately left us after getting pneumonia, triggered by influenza.”
The actress’s health had been a concern in recent years, as she had previously dealt with epilepsy and related complications. Despite not acting in dramas since 2012, Barbie remained a public figure, occasionally attending family events and social gatherings.
