Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date Confirmed: Everything We Know So Far

1 Mins read

After years of speculation and anticipation, fans of the long-running Grand Theft Auto franchise now have a confirmed release date for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6). After being delayed from release in 2025, the highly anticipated game is officially set for release on 26 May 2026, according to developer Rockstar Games.

The game is expected to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in history, and will launch on the Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X/S consoles first. But no official word has been released to date regarding the release date for its PC version, with many gamers speculating on when it’ll get there.

The franchise’s latest release, GTA 6, will return to the iconic Vice City setting that was previously seen in the 2002 game, using Florida heavily as its inspiration. Rockstar has promised a larger, more immersive open world with urban areas, beaches, highways and rural areas. The firm has suggested that the map might be among the biggest in franchise history.

A very mentioned thing is the inclusion of dual protagonists, with the first ever female lead character in a primary line GTA, Lucia. Initial teasers indicate that the film will be a crime-driven pair that will be reminiscent of Bonnie & Clyde in Rockstar’s trademark fashion, with a mix of action, drama and satire.

The first official trailer of GTA 6 captured the imagination of the online community when it was released, providing a window into the vibrant nightlife, rapid-paced pursuits, and storytelling of social media. A second trailer later added more information on gameplay, relationships with characters and the world players will venture into.

GTA 6 is expected to be one of the most profitable games of all time, according to industry analysts. The previous game, Grand Theft Auto V, has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide and remains popular a decade after its release. So, there is a high bar set for Rockstar’s next

GTA 6 is still a ways off, with gamers expected to wait until May 2026, but anticipation for the game is growing. The game features a contemporary version of Vice City with new characters and enhanced graphics and is poised to become one of the biggest games of the year.
