Saw XI Has Reportedly Been Cancelled With Production Having Halted “Almost A Year” Ago

2 Mins read

Saw XI cancelled: According to reports, Saw 11 was cancelled since production had stopped “nearly a year” ago. A recent update on Saw XI claims that the film has been cancelled, with work on the horror sequel having stopped more than a year ago.

Shortly after Saw X, the tenth instalment of the gore-splattered horror series that was a critical and financial triumph, was published, Saw XI was revealed.

The sequel was postponed by a full year to September 26, 2025, from its initial release date of September 27, 2024. Since then, no information has been released regarding the upcoming eleventh film in the series.

Bloody Disgusting now claims that Saw XI has been discreetly cancelled, with a source indicating that production has not been proceeding for “[a]lmost a year now.”

Production paused in January 2024 due to producer infighting, according to the report, with one producer attempting to “plow forward” with the film while another attempted to block its progress.

The sequel was essentially cancelled since Lionsgate had no one to intervene and negotiate a way forward. Consequently, Saw X marks the conclusion of the franchise. The study did point out that if new films are produced, they’ll probably “start over.”

The Implications of Saw XI’s Cancellation for the Franchise

With Costas Mandylor’s Mark Hoffman joining Tobin Bell’s John Kramer, the Saw X post-credits sequence promises a continuation of the story with additional well-known characters.

Although it remained unclear whether Saw XI would be a straight-forward continuation, Bell was anticipated to return to the role, along with Mandylor and Shawnee Smith as Amanda Young.

In addition, director Kevin Greutert was expected to return, while Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg would be replaced by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who co-wrote the films from Saw IV to Saw 3D.

Two years ago, John Kramer’s flawless Saw X comeback was all but destroyed. What internal disputes led to the film’s cancellation is not mentioned in the article.

However, unless the idea is resurrected in a different form in the future, it does mean that the franchise is essentially over.

The report’s assertion that they would “start over” if the horror series continued might result in anything from a reboot to a total rethinking of the film’s plot.

It would make sense for Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures to desire the series to continue in some capacity, given how legendary the Saw films are for their intricate traps and interwoven plots.

With favourable reviews and impressive box office results, it appeared that the tenth film in the series would successfully revive the horror franchise.

Fans are shocked by the announcement, and many have taken to social media to vent their frustration at what appears to be the end of the franchise.

One fan wrote on X: “Damn I was curious to see where the next one would take place.

Well, it is as most of us feared, and with that, I’m very disappointed. but I will sing the praises of this series for all times to come. If Saw X was truly the end, then it was one helluva last hurrah and I will cherish its existence forever,” added a second fan.

Booooo. Saw X would be a pretty solid ending for the franchise though!” wrote a third fan, with a fourth expressing their disappointment as they wrote: Damn that sucks! Many things they could [have done] after Saw X.

Given that Saw XI had plenty of opportunity to carry on the series while upholding its new standard of excellence, its termination is all the more bittersweet.

However, since the movie’s production froze more than a year ago, it appears that the franchise is formally on hold while Twisted Pictures determines its next course.
