Sweden Shooting 2025: Ten people, including the suspected shooter, have been killed in a shooting at Sweden’s Campus Risbergska school, according to authorities on Tuesday.

There was still no definitive number of wounded or final death toll. After a fatal gun incident at the adult education centre Campus Risbergska school in Orebro, Sweden, police technicians enter the campus (via REUTERS).

Police say roughly 10 people have been murdered in a shooting at an educational institution in central Sweden, including the alleged gunman.

The incident at the Risbergska school in Orebro, 200 kilometres (124 miles) west of the Swedish capital, on Tuesday, was dubbed the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history” by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

Police stated that they did not previously know the male perpetrator, who they believed to be among the dead. They stated that he was thought to be acting alone and that there was no immediately apparent motive.

The institution offers primary and upper-secondary courses to students over the age of 20. It also provides vocational training, programs for those with intellectual disabilities, and Swedish classes for newcomers.

According to local police chief Roberto Eid Forest, the crime scene was severely damaged, making it difficult for investigators to pinpoint the actual cause of the occurrence.

Police anticipate that the number of fatalities will increase.

According to investigators, the criminal was unknown to the police before and acted alone. The chief of the local police department added that there were no potential links to terrorism and no warning indications before the incident.

Lena Warenmark, an educator, told SVT News that she likely heard ten gunshots. She also mentioned that the number of students on campus Tuesday afternoon following the exam was very low.

Following the shooting, the pupils were taken to a nearby facility for protection. Andreas Sundling, 28, was one of the people compelled to barricade themselves inside the school after hearing ‘three fringes and screams.’.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated the tragedy was a “very painful day for all of Sweden” and termed the incident as the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history.”.

In a statement, the police claimed that the event is currently being investigated as “an attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offence,” according to Reuters.

Kristersson, in an evening news conference, stated: “It is difficult to take in the magnitude of what has happened today,”

She further said, “My thoughts are also with all those whose normal school day was exchanged for terror. Being confined to a classroom with fear for your own life is a nightmare that no one should have to experience.”

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer had told Swedish news agency TT: “The reports of violence in Örebro are very serious. The police are on site, and the operation is in full swing. The government is in close contact with the police and is closely following developments”.

Prime Minister Kristersson remarked on how today is “a very painful day for all in Sweden” and that he is thinking about everyone who had a “normal school day” replaced “with terror.”

Later, he emphasised that there were no further hazards associated with going to school the following day and urged people to provide police with the freedom and space they require to carry out their duties and investigations.

In the days ahead, authorities and the Swedish government will provide more details, Kristersson said.
